So good to connect. What part of the world are you in right now?
I’m in Toronto right now and just got back from a much-needed trip to Vancouver. Feeling very refreshed and inspired.
Tell me a bit about what inspired you to create the collection Resonance and Reverie.
This collection was largely inspired by the hypnotic techno scene. Aside from being an artist, I’m also a DJ and record label owner. One of my favourite genres to release and play is hypnotic techno, which is very loopy, soundscape-y and trippy. When you hear it, especially out at a proper club or warehouse party, it sort of puts you in this trance-like state and I wanted to try and replicate that feeling with visuals.
You are well known in the community as one of the biggest collectors of Art Blocks. How did you feel about making the switch from collector to artist.
I definitely wouldn’t consider myself one of the biggest, but I do have a sizeable collection and am completely addicted to collecting art from the platform.
In terms of making the switch – I’ve been an artist for quite a number of years now, though most of my work prior to NFTs was focused on album art. The art world is intimidating and becoming an artist in the traditional sense was never something on my mind. NFTs essentially removed this barrier and gave me an outlet where I felt comfortable to share my work that I had been creating for myself, rather than for my artists’ records.
You’ve been really active in the Tezos community. What has drawn you to this platform, and what is your outlook on the artists with in said community.
The Tezos and OG Hic Et Nunc community are so special to me. HEN was where I first started releasing NFTs and it was honestly the most fun I’ve had in the space. The thing that really drew me to the platform was how similarly the ethos represented that of the underground techno scene – very community driven, unpretentious, experimental, and alternative. I also love how art-centric those drawn to the chain are, leaving all the “utility” to Ethereum.
What are your hopes for the future of NFTs, both as a collector and as an artist?
I hope we see more adoption from galleries and museums. It’s been really exciting to see the work that Snowfro and the ArtBlocks team have been doing to get generative art on the blockchain recognized by the legacy art world.
You also work in the music space as a producer DJ and label owner. Did you compose your own music for these pieces, or work with any artists from your label?
The music for these pieces was written by an artist on my label, 747. He’s incredible at dreamy acid and pads and he created the perfect soundscape for this drop.
We absolutely love you and your work. What can we expect from you next?
Thanks so much! For now, I’m just focusing on creating and haven’t planned out any future drops yet, aside from my upcoming NFT Culture x Nifty Gateway collection. I’ll probably put a couple pieces up on Objkt soon and then take it from there.
