NFTs are allowing the Faces of memes their rightful compensation

This morning, Laina Morris sold her meme portrait conveying “Overly Attached Girlfriend” for 200.00 ETH which converted to USD would be over $400,000 (and could be worth over a million if she HODLs the ETH instead of cashing out). What is just as interesting is that there was a bidding war between the winner 3f Music (A dubai-based music studio) and Jakov_T  A pseudo-nonymous personality that is yet to be uncovered. Laina has done a great job leveraging her tongue-and-cheek character into fame with periodic videos on youtube and massive followings on instagram and twitter.

Laina describes the NFT on Foundation with the following:

Overly Attached Girlfriend became a viral meme in June of 2012 when a screenshot taken from “JB Fanvideo” on YouTube, featuring the OAG stare, was spread far and wide across the internet. Before long, people all over the world began creating memes centered around Overly Attached Girlfriend’s clingy and creepy persona.

My name is Laina, and I am the (creepy) face behind the meme.

By owning the authenticated Overly Attached Girlfriend NFT, you’re guaranteed to never be alone again.

Ever.

This is another win in a string of recent massive purchases by 3F Music that includes the recent New York Times NFT for 350 ETH and a myriad of other pieces of art ranging from .5 ETH to hundreds of ETH.

We are excited to see the meme generation start to benefit from their work. This is another example of the importance of NFTs in our current world and the fact that individuals ranging from Bad Luck Brian to Overly Attached Girlfriend are finally getting their heyday pay day. We hope other meme creators get their share in the future.

This sums up the entire NFT community nicely.
