Yuga is in the dog house

Yuga hired a freelancer for the BAKC logo, sparking outrage.

Controversy strikes the world of NFTs as Yuga Labs, the creator of the popular Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) NFTs, is accused of copyright infringement. It all started when Twitter user @Jdotcolombo pointed out the striking similarities between the BAKC logo and a design created by Easy Drawing Guides in April of 2021. Easy Drawing Guides was quick to claim intellectual property rights over the image, stating that it was their “original drawing” and protected by their terms and conditions.

This has sparked a heated debate about intellectual property rights in the world of NFTs. The BAKC logo is an integral part of the NFT, and its alleged similarity to the Easy Drawing Guides’ design raises questions about the originality and authenticity of the NFTs.

Yuga Labs founder Greg Solano, who goes by the handle @CryptoGarga on Twitter, took to the social media platform to address the issue. In a series of tweets, he stated that the situation was “news to us” and that Yuga Labs was investigating the matter. He also revealed that Yuga Labs had used a freelancer for the BAKC logo, which may have led to the alleged copyright infringement.

The Kennel Club has donated more than $1m to charity

While the accusations of copyright infringement are serious, it is worth noting that Yuga Labs has responded promptly and is working to remedy the situation. In his tweets, Solano stated that they will be changing the logo and updating it on their site and ask marketplaces to change as well. He also emphasized that the BAKC NFTs were meant to raise money for charity and that he was proud of the fact that they had raised over $1 million for animal charities.

The controversy surrounding the BAKC NFT logo highlights the importance of intellectual property rights in the world of NFTs. While Yuga Labs may have made a mistake, it is commendable that they are taking responsibility for their actions and working to make things right. The NFT community will be watching closely to see how this situation is resolved and what it means for the future of NFTs.
