Sydney’s first major international NFT exhibition launches March 2022, including works by Beeple, Trevor Jones and BossLogic
Sydney’s first major international NFT exhibition opens in early March taking over Bondi Beach, with over 40 works from artists that are shaping the NFT art world.
Satellite exhibition will be held at Twenty Twenty Six Gallery in Bondi Beach on 9 March through to 3 April 2022. The Satellite experience is twofold, a month-long digitally immersive and sensory experience of NFTs and an educational hub where visitors can discover and learn about collecting and creating NFTs.
Satellite will present over 40 pieces featuring the largest cross-section of NFT art from leading Australian and international artists, including Beeple, Trevor Jones, BossLogic, Serwah Artafu, Yambo, David Porte Beckefeld, LIŔONA, Mikaela Stafford, Chris Golden, David McLeod, Jessica Ticchio and more.
Some of the highlights are Beeple’s seminal Into the ether, Trevor Jones’s Bitcoin Angel and a new unique artwork by BossLogic will be auctioned off with proceeds supporting Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, a non-profit protecting and conserving reefs around the world. NFT sales have so far reached around $3.5 billion in the first three quarters of this year according to the Hiscox Online Art Trade Report 2021, indicating the digital art market is more than just a fleeting phenomenon. Satellite aims to offer Sydney’s first immersive experience for the NFT curious and to provide an important catalyst for financial and cultural inclusion of NFT art
Satellite’s Director, Katie Tholo of REVELO Art Agency said: “We want to give people the opportunity to engage with NFT art beyond the screens of personal devices in a new and meaningful way as well as offering a bridge between the digital and physical worlds. By highlighting the transformative power NFTs are having on the creative economy and by showcasing world-leading digital artists who have traditionally been sidelined by the established artworld, we hope to provide a forum to educate and demonstrate the value and power of digital art.”
Satellite has partnered with Studio Messa to bring the physical gallery to life through immersive and sensory storytelling befitting of the incredible works on display. To help deliver an unforgettable and impactful event of this scale, Satellite is supported by corporate partners including Apollo Capital, Carbon Neutral, CoinSpot, Illuvium, Mawson Infrastructure Group, QT Hotels and Studio Messa.
Open to the public for free, Satellite will host a live charity auction, a series of panel talks and networking events that invite attendees to think further about digital ownership, provenance and the latest trends around NFTs. From opening night on 9 March 2021, visitors will have the opportunity to purchase works virtually or through QR codes that link to community-driven NFT marketplace Foundation.
“Blockchain technology and NFTs are giving power back to the individual, both creators and collectors, by making transactions and information transparent and public, which is in contrast to the realities of the traditional and often-opaque art market,” Tholo adds.
Each NFT contains incorruptible in-built documentation of their origin, ownership history and current ownership status. This ability to prove digital ownership is a breakthrough that allows NFT artists to efficiently monetise their digital creations through primary sales and recurring royalties. Meanwhile, NFTs are increasingly being seen as a value-holding investment given
their unique nature and significant buyer demand from a growing base of enthusiasts and collectors.
Notably, Satellite will be the first of an annual series of exhibitions which presents digital contemporary art utilising technological and blockchain innovation. The all-star team behind the exhibition include: Katie Tholo, ex-Art Gallery of New South Wales staffer and Founder of REVELO Art Agency, Peter Pengly, Founder and Director of Studio Messa, and Australian leading digital artist and Curator of Satellite, David Porte Beckefeld.
Satellite is committed to sustainability. Working with Carbon Neutral, Satellite will offset the carbon footprint of all NFTs exhibited at the event. This includes all carbon emissions associated with NFT minting, bidding, sale and transfer of ownership.
The unavoidable emissions will be compensated for through the purchase of carbon credit units from Carbon Neutral’s reforestation project located in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor, Western Australia.
