“CryptoArte is a multi-disciplinary project that blends together the Ethereum network, an art collection, a non-fungible token, and a decentralized application.” -cryptoArte.io

This project was an early one, and in my opinion, one of the first abstract art focused works on the blockchain. Launched in 2018 on ethereum, these 9895, unique paintings were mathematically created using data from the ethereum blockchain. For example, if one were to look around the date a certain NFT project were deployed, the painting would contain pixelated with the imagery of said project. The original mint price was .15, and the current floor is .125, however some sales have been as high as 38.5 Eth.

Each piece measures 7,680 by 4,320 pixels, and was made available to the owners to print. This next part was a bit more detailed, so borrows from the CryptoArte website: “Each painting illustrates 576 Ethereum blocks by organizing them into 18 rows of 32 consecutive blocks each. The first and last blocks are decorated with their corresponding block numbers and timestamps. All other blocks are decorated by 4 corner triangles that serve as a form of “security mark” while bringing a vitreau or node/network effect to the paintings. Block miners are represented through a shape or icon within each block. Their shapes are unique (i.e.: no two miners will ever have the same icon) and remain constant throughout the entire collection.

Some miners are very rare, have mined only one block, and can be seen in one and only one painting, while others are very active and common, have mined many blocks, and can be seen in almost every painting.”

The artist, Sebastian Brocher, is a technology entrepreneur and has an avid interest in art. He saw the combination of these areas as a path to growth in web3. The goal was to foster an awareness and spark meaningful conversation about the blockchain and it’s capabilities.
