NastPlas NFT Artist Interview

Nastplas are an international creative duo based in Madrid, Spain and formed in 2006 by  illustrator Fran R. Learte ‘drFranken’ and creative director Natalia Molinos ‘Na’ (together  ‘Nastplas Team’). Their work combines an impressive range of digital elements and abstract  patterns with which they develop elaborate pieces of art with a deeply aesthetic.

Our work explores in a conceptual background the limits between reality and abstraction  through an ascending and constant process of artistic investigation and experimentation.

Where are you from?

Madrid, Spain

What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend?

Take photos and try new food.

One thing you cannot live without?

Spicy food

Who is your favorite artists (Non NFT)?

Salvador Dalí

Who is your favorite NFT artist?

We have a lot of names, it is difficult to decide on just one.

What made you pursue NFT art?

We are digital artists since 2006. This has been a natural step for us. What is the one piece of NFT art you wish you had purchased but missed out on?

Buying a Beeple piece would have been great.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go? To “Cegoñal”. It has always been our favorite town.

OBSYDIAN

Obsydian is a surreal piece inspired by the organic architecture of Antoni Gaudí where the human habitat and the natural world harmoniously coexist.

The piece is made up of multiple independent modules, generative forms and modernist elements gravitating in space and attached to a central structure that supports mechanical traction efforts in the form of a crown.

Behind some of these elements are mathematical definitions and parametric creation algorithms that we have experimented with to create complex and intricate aesthetics.

The music that accompanies the piece entitled “Laberia” has been composed and produced by us.

SNELL

SNELL – Snell An Exploration of the Visual Refractive Status. When light passes from one medium to another with different properties, its direction and speed of propagation changes and the phenomenon of refraction occurs.Variations in color, direction and intensity are manifestations that allow us to verify that changes occur when light passes from one medium to another. We have created this set of images for the observation and experimentation of the phenomenon of refraction of light when it passes from a less dense medium (air) to a denser medium (water).

KETHER

– Archaeological stratigraphy is the study of the superposition of layers or strata of the earth on the ground for an archaeological purpose. History is marked in each of the strata that make up the earth. This concept is the starting point of our “KETHER” project. We have focused on the Greek and Roman civilizations for their cultural and artistic legacy, fusing the graphic representation of Stratigraphy with the sculptural representation of some of their divinities and emperors.

TAISHA – 代赭

– Taisha – 代赭 Experimental work in which we have used generative 3D and mixed it with digital simulations of acrylic paint to create this series of figurative works with a great sense of movement and dynamism. Each piece has been modeled by generative strokes that we have subsequently united into a single image symbolizing some archetypes of a person’s state of mind such as love, desire or anguish.

HIDAPOP

– Hidapop This project metaphorically represents the connection between traditional art and digital art. We have represented this concept by modeling different human figures in the style of the masterpieces of old master painters such as Caravaggio or Velázquez, interpreting this connection by transparent crystals that cross each figure at various points to symbolize a form of coherence between both disciplines and how it is possible that they coexist to achieve greater artistic level. We have also wanted to merge traditional art with contemporary art using different pop icons in each piece.

칠석 – CHILSEOK

is a project inspired by the Korean folk tale in which a young woman weaver named Jiknyeo (Hangul: 직녀, Hanja: 織女), daughter of a heavenly king, fell in love with a young shepherd named Gyeonwu (Hangul: 견우, Hanja: 牽 牛) who lived on the other side of the Milky Way. The king ordered the couple to live separately, allowing them to meet only once a year. On the seventh day of the seventh month of each year, they were excited to meet, but they couldn’t cross the Milky Way. However, the crows and magpies worked together to form a bridge across the Milky Way so that the couple could meet again. The second concept that has inspired this series is the conception of time as something cyclical, based on the idea of the eternal return by Friedrich Nietzsche but raising the real possibility of the functioning of time as an eternal loop, which produces the elimination of classical conceptions of past, present and future.

POLYBIUS

– Polybius – is a project that shows 4 spaces with decoration and materials reminiscent of the decade of the 80s, in the midst of the the golden age of video games. We have played with fabrics, inflatable shapes and different types of lighting to create a contemporary atmosphere of those years.

KHOA

– Khoa Khoa is an experimental project where we use physical simulations to provoke the interaction between different objects.

CECROPIA

– Cecropia – is a project in which we have designed several insects mutated by geometric shapes and elements as fabrics, metallic and organic structures changing their morphology. We have created a great variation in the modifications of the basic structure of the body of each insect and its exoskeleton to adapt to new environments as a consequence of the evolutionary acceleration conditioned by environmental changes. This new variety of insects will not only be better equipped to survive, but they will also be able to develop new and better characteristics to perpetuate their species.

DEIMOS

This illustration represents a romantic story between an astronaut and an android and how they finally merge into a single nucleus called DEIMOS.
This work is a piece taken from the series we made in 2017 with the same name.

Matelassé Bones

“My skin grows black and peels, and my bones burn.” Inspired by extremely intricate work of genius Alexander Mcqueen, Björk and Iris Van Herpen we have created this series of 3d illustrations combining different human bodies with brightly glowing, electrified glass neon tubes. For each model, we have created different materials and textures, lace fabrics and accessories that are very elaborate with an unconventional style.

Matelassé Knit

Second work of Matelassé series. “Man does not weave the fabric of life; he’s just a strand of her. ” Inspired by extremely intricate work of genius Alexander Mcqueen, Björk and Iris Van Herpen we have created this series of 3d illustrations combining different human bodies with brightly glowing, electrified glass neon tubes. DYSMORPHIA

-Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a disease in which patients often do their best to hide from the world, perceiving their physique incorrectly.

In this project, we have hidden beautiful human figures among different geometric shapes to conceptually represent how patients are seen in a wrong way by themselves.

People with TDC are hyperconcentrated in the perception of their defects, which often go unnoticed by others.

KERN

Radioactivity results from the random and spontaneous breakdown of the unstable nucleus of an atom.

This breakdown is called radioactive decay (nuclear decay) of the unstable nucleus of the atom (radioisotope).

In the breakdown of the unstable nucleus, energy is released by the emission (usually) of three types of ionising radiation (nuclear radiation) called alpha particle radiation , beta particle radiation and gamma ionising radiation.

Dissection III

Dissection is a conceptual work inspired by medical practice used in pathology and forensic medicine.

It consists in the separation of the parts of an organism so that its anatomical structures and relationships can be studied. We have modeled different structures in 3d to later integrate them into human and animal models, thus creating poetic dissected compositions. We have also done a light and color study using chiaroscuro to give more realism and depth to each piece.
