Art Basel Zero 10 puts digital practice inside fair infrastructure
For years, digital and NFT-adjacent art orbited Art Basel week as satellite energy — pop-ups, Discord meetups, hotel-suite viewing rooms. Art Basel’s own announcement for Zero 10 reframes that orbit as infrastructure: a curated global initiative for art of the digital era, debuting at Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 (December 5–7; VIP December 3–4) with OpenSea as an Official Partner, then expanding to select 2026 fairs including Art Basel Hong Kong.
The name nods to Malevich’s 1915 0,10 exhibition — avant-garde language for a new century. Curated by Eli Scheinman, the inaugural Miami Beach edition listed twelve international exhibitors spanning generative systems, robotics, light, and code-native practices: AOTM, Art Blocks, Asprey Studio, Beeple Studios, bitforms gallery, Fellowship, Heft, Visualize Value, Nguyen Wahed, Onkaos, Pace Gallery, and SOLOS, plus Lu Yang’s DOKU – Heaven on loan from the UBS Art Collection.
Why this is marketplace news and culture news at once
OpenSea’s partner post frames Zero 10 as Art Basel connecting digital community builders with the established art market. That is not a floor report. It is a signal about where legitimacy and discovery now meet:
- Fair infrastructure over weekend vibes. Zero 10 builds on Art Basel’s Digital Art Council, Digital Dialogues, and prior activations (including Bright Moments’ DREAM-0 by Huemin at Miami Beach 2024).
- Institutional collecting language. Art Basel cites The Art Basel and UBS Survey of Global Collecting 2025: 51% of 3,100 high-net-worth respondents purchased a digital work in 2024–2025; digital art ranked third in total spending with a sharply rising share of private collections. Those are survey claims from the fair’s release — not invented NFT floors.
- Artist-forward packaging. Presentation notes highlight Fellowship’s Itzel Yard (IX Shells), bitforms’ arc from Manfred Mohr and Casey Reas to Maya Man, Beeple Studios’ robotics, Pace’s Turrell Glass series, and Nguyen Wahed’s XCOPY / Kim Asendorf / Joe Pease triad — a culture map of how digital practice is being shown, not flipped.
Art Basel’s Zero 10 hub also documents the 2026 Hong Kong expansion (14 exhibitors, citywide activations) — proof the initiative was designed as multi-fair, not a one-off Miami stunt.
The NFT Culture take
Art Basel Zero 10 is digital art culture graduating from side-event energy into fair architecture, with a marketplace partner (OpenSea) sitting at the table without reducing the story to volume charts. For NFT Culture readers, the homework is curatorial: which practices survive the move from timeline to booth — and which collectors treat provenance and exhibition history as seriously as they once treated mint timestamps.
